Contrary to Councillor Juliet Short’s statement made via a live Washington Post Facebook stream that “the EU has never given Stratford-upon-Avon any money”, Stratford4Europe would beg to differ.
The total funding given to Warwickshire from the EU is listed on the Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership website. This was 36m euros for the European Structural Investment Fund and £2.7m for the European Agriculture Fund for Rural Development for 2014 – 2020. Tracking down exactly which projects received EU funding can be difficult as many projects receive matched funding and don’t ‘label’ each section as to origin.
A local success story, Henley Engineers, were granted £10,000 just this year by the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce’s Business Support Programme, which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), towards the cost of a £60,000 machine. (Full story in The Herald)
