Stratford District Councillor Proposes Motion To Secure Local EU Citizens’ Future

The following cross-party motion will be proposed by Councillor Fojtik and seconded by Councillor Vaudry at the forthcoming full Council meeting to be held in the Council Chamber at Stratford-on-Avon District Council, Elizabeth House, Church Street, Stratford-upon-Avon on Monday 24 April at 2pm. This is a public meeting and should last about one hour.

The Council welcomes all EU citizens, who are expatriates from the other 27 EU Member States, and recognises the valuable role they play in our local economy and the provision of public services in Stratford-on-Avon District. EU citizens are an important part of our local community and add to the cultural vitality of the District.

The Council therefore resolves:

1. To establish a mechanism to increase the involvement of EU citizens in local decision-making.

2. Calls on the Government to end the uncertainty regarding the status of EU citizens currently residing in Stratford-on-Avon by guaranteeing their right to live and work in the UK in the event of the UK leaving the European Union.
